Educational Objectives:

At the completion of this conference participants will have the knowledge to:

  • Relate through case presentation transport considerations for high-risk patients, and those presenting with unique and challenging problems so that patient safety and best patient care are achieved.
  • Discuss trends in air medical care through examination of current research, patient care advances, and models of transport services.
  • Describe the current state of safety in the HEMS environment and how individual programs can achieve the best possible safety standards for patients and crewmembers.
  • Recognize behaviors of stress in the flight team and describe how to initiate appropriate intervention and management recommendations.
  • Acquire knowledge of the Communications Center including equipment, protocols and procedures so that the medical director is knowledgeable of this critical element of medical transport.
  • Explain aircraft capabilities and limitations, aviation safety issues, weather minimums, and application regulations of the FAA and FAR Part 135 so that the medical director is knowledgeable about this mode of medical transport.
  • Discuss the current state of the literature for critical care transport medicine.
